It worked… kind of

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Amie ate all that I put on her plate (three bites, usually she only eats the one required-to-leave-table bite), but didn’t get anymore. James on the other hand ate two pork chops. He liked it a lot. Amie said it was good, but she didn’t feel like having more. When I ate mine, I decided that it needed just a little more brown sugar. It was good, but it didn’t add as much flavor as I was hoping for. Since this was my first time trying it, I was being careful about the amount of sugar I was using because I didn’t want to overdo it. I’ll add a little more next time.

Yum!

I’m hoping that rubbing pork chops with a little brown sugar will help some eldest daughter of mine to eat more than normal. It sure sounds good to me!

Wrecks

Both Amie and James have bad boo-boos on their elbows. They went outside on Saturday after the rain ended. I told them not to ride bikes or scooters until the road was dry. They didn’t listen. James slid into some gravel at the side of the road and Amie slid on the sidewalk. James’s elbow looks pretty bad still. His was too big for even the biggest bandaid that we have (and they are 2 inches square for the bandage part.) We put on a cotton bandage and used medical tape to keep it on. I went to change it today and it was sticking to his sore. I felt bad about having to hurt him to get it off, but it needed another cleaning and more medicine on it. He’s a good strong boy. Amie cried a lot more about hers and hers was just a scraped up elbow with no bleeding.

Anyway, that’s what happened over the weekend here, other than church. I got a good nap on Sunday afternoon instead of going to Jeremy’s softball game and am feeling better. Noelle’s slept better the last two nights. I hope the cold and teething are done soon so she sleeps fairly well again.

Off of this subject, I’m taking a bunch of pictures of my kids and plan on making a collage of them to put here as soon as Jeremy’s ready to put it on.

Things my Children Love about… (part 1)

their Daddy!

the way he makes pizza, when he brings us to work because he sometimes lets us help, he plays games with us, he buys us drinks, he picks up toys with me, he’s funny, he reads books, he loves us, he becomes the tickle monster sometimes.

They all contributed something, except Noelle. She just went running around the house yelling, “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!”

A bit disappointed

We still had a last payment to make for the expensive repairs the van needed last month. We paid it with this last paycheck. Next Wednesday is Jeremy and my 9 year anniversary. Unfortunately, nothing left for us to do anything, not even a dinner out. Oh well, I guess we’ll just wait until the 13th and have the youth trip to Six Flags be our anniversary outing also. It’s Christian Family Day there and we’re all going to the Third Day concert that night. It’s just not going to be the same. We’re not going to be alone, instead we’ll have about 15 teens to supervise. Not that it won’t be fun. I know I’m going to have a blast.

Sorry to talk about it here. I’m just disappointed and needed to get it out of my system. I think part of my attitude is contributed to by lack of sleep at the moment. Noelle was up fairly often two nights ago and every half an hour last night and I wasn’t able to get a nap yesterday or today. I’m exhausted.

Prayer for one of my youth and her family

One of the girls in my youth group called me two days ago. Her cousin was in the hospital with bad complications from diabetes. He’s had diabetes all his life and it’s always poured it’s worst symptoms on him. She told me that his sister died 4 years ago from the same thing. Yesterday, she called and said he had been put on a respirator because he was barely breathing on his own, but the last time they’d checked, he wasn’t breathing at all on his own. I’m waiting for her to call today. I’m sure she will. He’s a Christian, so they know he’ll be in Heaven when he dies, but she said it’s still sad to see him going through all this. He’ll be whole in Heaven. No more insulin shots, no more complications like blindness. She said it will be such a wonderful transformation for him, but she’ll still miss him.

I’ll update when I hear from her again.

Update: I talked to her at youth tonight. She said his breathing is doing better and the respirator is only at 23%. He’s still teeter-tottering between life and death, but it’s looking like he’s still needed here on earth for a little while longer. She said she’ll keep me updated.

Another update: Now it’s Thursday. She called and said he’s been taken off of the respirator all together and doing fine.

Ok, things are going better now.

The kids were all tired on Sunday. I should have thought of that before planning on staying at church for the concert. Amie, James, and Christine went with their grandparents to a birthday party in St. Louis on Saturday and didn’t get home and in bed until about 2 hours past bedtime. Trying to get them up in time for Sunday School was hard and it was the first Sunday we’ve been late in about 2 and a half years. (That was when I made my New Year’s Resolution to always be at church on time.) By the time of the concert, they were all just worn out. It was the two younger ones naptime also. Yesterday was still not a good day with them in the morning, but after a nap, they did better. They are all seeming much better today and returning to their regular schedule. Not to say we don’t have trouble. With 5 kids, you can’t have a day go by without at least a few problems, but nothing major. Wanna know about it? (more…)
