Ballet is Helping AnnaBeth

Monday, February 13th, 2006

AnnaBeth has sensory issues. She doesn’t like the feel of certain foods in her mouth and she doesn’t like holding other people’s hands. Her teacher is having them form a ring with holding hands and she is slowly doing a little more each time before she breaks away from the ring. Also, they have a part in the recital piece that they hook their arms together and she kind of balked at that contact also. She will only do that with one other girl in her class, so her teacher is putting her on the end of the row next to her friend. At home, I’m working with her on this by playing Ring-a-round-a-rosie. I think it’s helping.

Next, she’s never really been a social person. In fact, before ballet, if there was more than 2 or 3 other kids around, she would usually find a quiet corner to play in. I couldn’t get her to go to TeamKid at church because she couldn’t handle all the kids in the class. She would always end up getting too upset and going to the nursery with Noelle. For the first 3 weeks of ballet, she sat to the side most of the time and wouldn’t participate. She would come home and practice all the things she’d seen the other kids do, but wouldn’t do them in class. On the fourth week, I wasn’t able to see how she did, but was ready to pull her out if it turned out to be too much for her at this age. Her teacher told me that there were a few missing that day and AnnaBeth did about half the activities. Since then, she slowly did more and more until she was doing everything. What helped me to know that she was really doing better with this was that these last two weeks, she has stayed in her TeamKid class.

Then there was her feet. All my girls have their toes pointing in. Ballet works the muscles so that her toes will point the correct way. I’ve seen improvement in Amie since she started last year and I’m seeing it in AnnaBeth as well.

Last, but not least, is her love of music. She has always had a love of music just as I have. The same is with Amie. All my kids enjoy and love music, but these two (and maybe Noelle) show a little more. They both have beautiful singing voices and sing exactly on tune which isn’t all that common for younger children. (My niece does this too.) They have shown a sense of rhythm as well. They’ve always moved to music whenever I had it on and I play it quite often. This is a way to enhance their music experience. I danced (clogging) when I was little and enjoyed it so much. I wish I could have done more, but chose gymnastics instead when we moved. Now, I’m learning as they do. It’s fun to share this with them.

Fortune Cookies or Advice Cookies?

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

After church, we went to a chinese buffet restaurant we like to eat at. The kids all found stuff they liked and I was able to eat nice healthy food for me (though probably a bit too much) and Jeremy got his sushi (yes, I know that’s Japanese) and other seafood stuff. At the end, they handed us the fortune cookies. I broke open one and pulled out the paper. It read…

Another Prayer Request

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

I know this is a lot of prayer requests in a small amount of time, but I know many of you are warriors for the Lord, so I bring them here.

Jeremy’s Chemistry teacher in college, Dr. Guimon, became a missionary to Uganda about 7 years ago or around then. He had cancer 30 years ago. When he and his family (wife and son) came home for furlough, they found 9 blockages and that his aortic valve needed replacing. It was a long term effect of the radiation treatment he’d had long ago. He had surgery and started feeling better, but then was feeling extremely bad. Apparently his heart isn’t functioning as it should and not enough blood is getting to his kidneys and liver.

Jeremy learned more than just chemistry from him and they bought me many of my maternity clothes when I was pregnant with Amie. Please pray for this man, his wife, son, and family.

Different Prayer Requests

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Our family is probably going to have a big change coming up. Pray that it all goes smoothly for us. I’ll update as soon as things are more concrete.

Remember the girl who had the 4-wheeler accident back in September and shattered her ankle. She’s just been cleared to work again. She’s a CNA and works at a nursing home. It’s been kind of rough this first few weeks back and her ankle is noticably swollen at the end of her shift. Pray for God to strengthen her ankle.

A friend of mine e-mailed me to tell me to pray for his friend who just found out she is pregnant. (He’s not her boyfriend, but a very good and concerned friend.) She and her boyfriend have decided it is best to get an abortion. I’m sure you all know my ideas on that. I am actively pro-life. I support our local Crises Pregnancy Center in donations of clothes and cash when I can. The decision they are making is based on the fact that she doesn’t have health insurance and can’t afford to have the baby. If I could talk to her, I’d tell her to get state health insurance for pregnant women and later for the baby, get WIC, and if you qualify, get food stamps. Go to your local Crises Pregnancy Center and you can get help with diapers and clothes. Once you know whether the child is a boy or girl, I’m sure someone who has an older one will be willing to give you their hand-me-downs. I’ve hardly had to buy any clothes for my children because of hand-me-downs and other help and I’m extremely grateful to the people who have given us so much.

I could say a whole lot more on this last prayer request I have, but I don’t need to put a sermon on here. I’ve been in tears since reading his e-mail to me. I lost my first baby through health problems and I miss her and wonder about what she would be like now if she’d lived. I can’t imagine also having the guilt of knowing I was the one who didn’t let her live. No, I don’t know if I had a girl or a boy, but I feel like that baby was a girl. I named her Alexa on the day we knew she was gone. (October 17, 1996, one year minus a day from when Amie was born on October 16, 1997)

Comments…

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

My comments have mysteriously stopped being e-mailed to me, so I’m responding to them here on my site right now. If it is something I don’t feel should be public, I’ll still e-mail you.

Allergic to what?

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Noelle has had three more breakouts of hives since that one episode in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. All of these have happened in these last few days. It’s getting a little worse each time. We can’t figure out what it is. It has happened everytime while in her bed. Three times at night and once at naptime. I’m re-washing all her bedding and have taken out all the toys. I have a big bottle of anti-histamine that I’ve been giving her a dose from everytime she breaks out and it works in about half an hour to help her. That first time, we thought it was just from eating the egg roll, but I’m thinking it was something else now. We’re scheduling her for testing. I hope we don’t have to run to the hospital before then. Please pray for her. This is really scary for me, not knowing what is going on with my baby.

War on Thumb Sucking… Last day of Week 1

Monday, February 6th, 2006

The last few days, though I’ve kept up with putting the stuff on their nails, I haven’t seen any signs of them putting a single thumb or finger in their mouths. I’m going to continue doing it until the end of Febuary. Christine went 3 weeks once without sucking her thumb and then started up again, so I’m not going to stop this too soon.

Guess what? I’m going to probably still have most of this stuff left when I’m done. After one week with three girls and you can barely tell it’s even been used. One of my friends said that she chews her nails sometimes, so she might use some of it and then I might give what is left to Jill to let her use with Tabitha when she is ready for it.

I’ll be happy to see Amie with healthy thumb nails. It will be nice. Too bad I didn’t discover this stuff before she lost her baby teeth. Her front adult teeth have come in kind of crooked. The dentist said she’s going to need work done to correct it later.

I’ll update you all on this war on a weekly basis.

Super Bowl Sunday!

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

I love football. My Dad got me into it and then when I was in high school and marching band, I got to go to lots of football games. That’s when I started really cheering with all my friends. You should see me. I get so excited and shout at the TV. Not bad stuff, just RUN, RUN, RUN… GO, GO, GO and that kind of stuff. I don’t really have any certain team that I strongly want to win this year, but I’ll enjoy watching it anyway. I’ve been thinking of rooting for the Seahawks since this is their first chance at a Super Bowl win and I think it’d be great if they could get it.

Anyway, our youth group is having a party tonight. They got a big kick out of my cheering last year. They said they watched me more than the game.

Appendicitis

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

Jill called this morning. Rob was having some pain Thursday and it got really bad yesterday. He went to the hospital last night and they told him that he needed to get his appendix out. His surgery was scheduled for 7:30 this morning. I’m still waiting on word from Jill. She said she’d call after it was over. They may have delayed the surgery time. I’ll update when I hear from her again. She’s kind of stressed right now. Tabitha was sick with the flu this morning as well, so she had to find someone to watch her girls that would be okay with a sick kid.

Edit:He didn’t have surgery until about 10:30 or so. There were no complications and he is doing fine.

Edit #2:He was in a lot of pain, but they doped him up on Morphine. Jill said he can barely stay awake long enough to listen to one sentence. I remember that feeling from after my shoulder surgery.
