Owie!!

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

I woke this morning hurting. Remember my shoulder surgery. It’ll be two years in August since I had it. That same muscle is hurting. I can barely move my arm. The last time this happened, a few days of rest worked, so hopefully that’s all I need. I forget that I’m not supposed to pick up heavy things and with moving boxes around and all, I’ve picked up a few of them which are probably a bit heavier than I should be lifting. This bothers me so much, I really am wanting to try and get this house in order, but I need my arm to do it.

More Dr’s Appointments

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

This week it was for Amie and James. Amie is slightly heavier and James is slightly taller. No wonder people think they are twins. Amie is 46 3/4 inches tall and 54 pounds. James is 47 1/4 inches tall and 52 pounds. The few pounds are explained by the fact that girls have a bit more fat to them than boys.  James still had one shot he was missing. I was sure we’d gotten them all at his Kindergarten check-up. He did pretty good. He was big enough, so they gave it to him in his arm. It wasn’t too bad, but he did scream when it first when in his arm. Amie had to take a finger pricked test to test for anemia. She is finally no longer anemic. Yay! They had to take a urine test. There was a question about the results from both of them, so they are being sent off to a lab. We go back next week for a recheck. Pray that they will both have normal results next week.

Little Copycat

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

She may only be almost 2 and 1/2, but she can really annoy the others when she plays the copycat.  She gets right next to whichever one she wants to do it to and then copies every little thing they say and doesn’t stop until I intervene.

I can’t help laughing at her sometimes though.  She has a myriad of faces and knows which to use and when.  She can look innocent, surprised, mischievious, or pouty, depending on what is going on and then after a minute laughs if you fell for it (or laughs with me if I say that I’m not going for that sort of thing.)  She is such a funny little girl.  She goes to the mirror up on the upstairs landing and practices those faces.  It is quite amusing to listen to her talking to herself and laughing at the different faces she makes.

My Poor Flowers

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

It’s been a stormy season with a lot of rain and wind. There was one 60 mile-per-hour wind storm on Wednesday night that did havoc to my yard. A big branch fell in the middle of the irises. The climbing roses were blown all about and many are missing petals. (My side yard was kind of pretty though on Thursday before the petals all wilted.) Another kind of flower, not sure what, is looking kind of sad from too much water.

Today, I went around and cut a bunch of flowers off and put them in my vase. I got two irises off their broken stems, some slightly ruffled up roses, and a few of the sodden flowers. They make a pretty bouquet in my kitchen. I doubt any of them will last long with all they’ve gone through, but I’ll enjoy them while they are around.

Toys!!

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Oh, the joy of finding toys you haven’t played with in a while. My kids love it. They found the Lincoln Logs and the Thomas the Tank Engine stuff and proceeded to make a small town with them today.

… and the sorrow continues

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Amie helped me put the ringlets I cut off of Noelle’s hair into a plastic bag for me to use in her baby book. (Which I’ll probably get done when she’s 25) As I was sweeping up the hair on the floor, AnnaBeth took the bag and dumped the hair into the trash on top of soggy cheerios. Waaaah! Since I’d finished up both AnnaBeth and Noelle’s hair, what was on the floor was a combination though mostly AnnaBeth, so I couldn’t just grab up a handful to put into the bag. It just wouldn’t be the same.

I Hate Scissors!

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

A little less than four years ago, Amie and James got ahold of some scissors and cut their hair. I had to give James a buzz cut and Amie got a traditional boys cut. Amie learned her lesson because she got so tired of people calling her James because of her haircut. I thought James had learned his lesson as well. About two weeks later, Christine cut her own hair and she stood up in front of the church with the half inch bangs sticking straight up. She was young, but hasn’t tried that again. On Monday, Jeremy, along with his brother and dad went to our storage shed and got some stuff. They brought in a basket with some art supplies in it, including the small scissors. I thought I’d grabbed the pairs of scissors, but Amie had taken one pair and had them up in her room to use with paper. James found them and cut AnnaBeth’s hair because she wanted her hair shorter since it curls better short. AnnaBeth then cut Noelle’s hair and Noelle tried to cut James’s hair, but isn’t able to use the scissors correctly so she didn’t do any damage. When Amie found out, she came running downstairs to get me. When I got up there, I cried. Noelle’s nice long loose spiral curls were gone. Now she has shoulder length hair. I didn’t want to have to cut her hair yet and I didn’t want her first hair cut to be this short. I’m still sad and tears still come to my eyes when I look at her. *Sigh*

Dance Recital

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

We went to AnnaBeth and Amie’s dance recital on the Sunday afternoon performance. It was great. I was happy that this year, there wasn’t as much of the little girls doing seductive moves. There was only one dance I wasn’t happy with. It was from the Hip Hop class. My girls are not going to do that stuff. Amie and AnnaBeth had a lot of fun performing. They both enjoy getting up in front of people to dance, so it was quite a pleasure to watch them. The only thing I was worried about was when AnnaBeth’s class went in a circle holding hands because of AnnaBeth’s sensory issues about holding hands. She didn’t want to do it, but her teacher was ready and picked her up and got the other children going. They were all used to it. AnnaBeth’s best friend (whom you saw in my pictures) was a little nervous when they had their dress rehearsal because she couldn’t see her mommy, but when her mommy reassured her that she was down there, she did a good job and the teacher said she thinks that little girl performed specifically for her mommy and daddy and didn’t care who all else was watching. I wasn’t able to take pictures during the actual performance, but I did get some during the dress rehearsal. They are a bit blurry because it was dark and so the shutter speed isn’t able to get the action as quickly as needed, but you can see them well enough. Most are of Amie’s ballet class, but I got one of AnnaBeth’s class. I put them all into the ballet set.

PS. There are three more photos in the kids set if you wish to see them. They are not from the dance recital. One is AnnaBeth and Noelle playing with pots and pans and the other two are of Amie and Christine at the Hat Party which our church had.

Drs Appointments Today

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Just well-child check-ups for Christine, AnnaBeth, and Noelle. A little later in the year than I usually do them, but we had a problem with our insurance which I finally got taken care of. Christine is getting her Kindergarten shots, so pray for her today. Amie and James have their appointments next week.

I’ll talk about the dance recital next post. Hopefully, my pictures will be ready today or tomorrow.

Edit:  Stats for them… Noelle: 31 3/4 inches and 22 1/2 pounds (still under 5%), AnnaBeth: 36 inches and 28 pounds (under 5% in height, but between 5 and 10% in weight)  Christine:  43 inches and 48 pounds (25% in height, but 75% in weight)  I think Christine is getting ready for a growth spurt.  She’s always been above 50% for height and so this is slightly unusual for her to be this low on the percentile scale.  The dr agreed that she is probably going to have one not too long from now, so we won’t worry about the change for now, but if it continues we’ll check it out.

Youth Lock-in

Monday, May 15th, 2006

I am not as young as I try to be.  On Friday night we had the youth lock-in.  We had a concert which was too loud for me.  We played Sardines, which only one other person and I even knew how to play.  We played hide and seek.  We played tag and I had to take many time-outs for rest.  We had a “dare you to eat this” contest and I was a judge.  We had sodas and cookies and I opted for water and a sandwich, though the chips and salsa were a nice snack.  We sat around talking and I brought up an issue that gave the opportunity for a small Bible study.  We sang old songs and I knew them.  We stayed up all night and I suffered for two days… wait, no I’m still suffering.

It was a great night, but I realized I’m not as young as I act sometimes and I’m glad.  I don’t want to be going through the things those kids go through.  I’m done with that age and I do not want to go back.  I was glad to have my five young children around me again after being surrounded by 8 teenagers all night.  Of course, I do realize that coming home in about 10 years will be to a house full of teenagers anyway.  I doubt I’ll be up all night in 10 years though and if I am, the teens will probably be more likely to let me sleep than they do now.
