The busiest weekend of the year for me, it seems. The youth lock-in last night was a lot of fun, but that is for a different post.
Getting Amie and AnnaBeth ready for their recital isn’t hard, but it does take a lot of time. I have to make sure their outfits are ready. Today, that meant doing a quick hand washing of Amie’s pink hose and throwing them in the dryer. I have to fix their hair. Amie has to have a bun high on the back of her head with no wispies coming out and a flower put in front of it. AnnaBeth has two ponytails which I make sure are nicely curled and a headband with two bobby pins to help hold it in place. Their hair alone takes a good hour to do, making sure it is nice and smooth. Those little bumps come up so easily. I use mousse to help it get that way and then for Amie, I use hairspray afterwards to help keep those wispies from forming. Next, they get into their outfits and I fix their make-up. I have to admit, it is fun making up my little girls and they enjoy it as well. It is a special event and they don’t ever get to wear make-up at other times. Just before leaving the house, I make sure they each have their backpack with their ballet slippers, a toy or two, a bottle of water, the make-up and extra bobby pins, and for the performance that we don’t go to see, my cellphone for Amie to use when the recital is done. Then we get into the van and drive the half mile to the theater (since it is raining, if it was nice, we’d walk) and I drop Amie off at the door and let her go to the room where she waits and I take AnnaBeth up to her room. That is when I am done and have to leave them in the capable hands of their teachers and chaperones and hope they don’t mess up their hair, make-up, or outfit. I’ll tell you about the actual recital after we see it tomorrow. I’m excited to see it. I can’t wait to see how AnnaBeth does in the actual performance.
