4-wheelers are dangerous. I was talking to a friend of mine last week. I told her I have never been on a motorcycle or 4-wheeler (or any ATV). I’m too scared. I’ve heard of too many people who had gotten hurt or killed on them and it had made me uncomfortable. (I know, more people get hurt or die from other things.) She called me on Friday and talked to me before going out on it and I asked her about her helmet. She said it was dirty and she’d wear it after it was cleaned, but she hadn’t had time yet. This morning, I was told she was in the hospital after an accident. I was happy to hear it was only her ankle, though it was completely crushed. She could have been hurt much worse since she didn’t have that helmet on. She had reconstructive surgery this morning. When I saw her this afternoon after she woke from her surgery… “Julie, you told me to be careful. I understand why you don’t want to ride them.”
I used to have a 3-wheeler in the mid 80’s till the time I could drive a car, and back then, 3-wheelers were considered a lot more dangerous than 4-wheelers to the point they stopped making them in that same time period. I had one wreck on mine when I took a curve too fast, but luckily I came away with just bad bruises and scrapes. Your friend has my sympathy and I hope she gets well sooner than later.
My friend is an avid 4-wheeler (he has two). He and some family went out to go riding. He told his sister “do NOT stick your leg out if you turn over” because that’s how most injuries happen. Well, she tipped over and what do you think happened? It wouldn’t have been so bad except that they were an hour’s drive before they got to a paved road, much less a hospital or ER. While driving over all those rocks and bumps he had to really work to keep her from going into shock.
by the way, totally off-topic, what is your email addy? I wanna holler in your direction about homeschooling.
Well, she was trying to get up a hill, so she gunned the engine, it shot up the hill and jumped the other side. She went flying off of the 4 wheeler and landed with her whole body weight coming down on the one foot.
Phisch, check your e-mail. I sent you an e-mail from my personal gmail account.
