I just wanted to give you some encouragement with this. I have been pretty much off of soda since I got pregnant with Jenna over 5 and 1/2 years ago, and I really I feel much better. I do have a soda when I'm out every now and then (maybe 1-2 times per month), but I don't even crave it now like I used to (instead, I crave water now). Aaron went off soda and caffiene last year when he started the GERD diet for his acid reflux, so we don't keep it in the house at all, and I've noticed that even when Jenna is somewhere where she has the option of drinking soda, she usually asks for milk or water instead, so it has helped our whole family develop healthier habits.
I've also chosen to limit my caffiene the last year or two also, as my blood pressure was running a little higher than normal, and I definately didn't want to have to go on medication for it in my 30s! We now drink decaf coffee and tea at home and when we go out to eat. I do drink regular coffee at work, but I limit myself to 2 cups a day. Maybe once a month or so I will splurge and get myself a cup of esspresso (I'm a sucker for the gourmet coffees). Going off the caffiene was really hard at first. I was really tired, had a lot of headaches and was achy, but after I got past the first week or so, my blood pressure started to come down, my body was better hydrated and I started to feel A LOT better. Now, I can tell if I have been drinking too much caffiene, because I get really tired and jittery all at the same time.
So, hang in there through the caffiene withdrawls. The health benefits are definately worth it!
